CAI-GRIE's Mission is to advance the community association industry through positive image,
professionalism, advocacy, education and networking.
A Chapter Building Legends, One Story at a Time

2017 is upon us and we look forward to another spectacular year. I am honored and privileged to have been given the opportunity to serve as the CAI GRIE President in 2017. Thank you all for your support and continued dedication to the Chapter. A special "thank you" to our community association volunteer leaders; our business partners and our managers. We are more than 620 strong.
In 2017, we will continue to look hard at events, education, and programming with the mindset, “Are we accomplishing our established purpose”? A question we have, and will continue to ask ourselves, “Are we doing what we were chartered to do”? Advancing the community association industry through positive image, professionalism, advocacy, education and networking.

The theme for this coming year is “A Chapter building legends, one story at a time.”
We see the word “legend” used frequently; from comic books, to television shows and movies and even on the nightly news. The modern Urban Dictionary defines legend as “a person who embodies the pinnacle of all the important social aspects. Any person who is funny, reckless, original and sensitive in the right measures is likely to be nominated a legend by his associates. A person to whose persona you aspire.” In the past 12-18 months America has seen much turmoil in the political parties, division based on the color of skin and mass and localized killings; California has not been immune. In times like this, we as a united people have historically found ourselves looking desirously for hope and strength. You see, in times of unrest, trial, and difficulty, the American spirit has shown that we regress inward and focus on reflection and preservation; establishing boundaries to protect ourselves and our families. For most, these boundaries are found in the walls of their homes. These physical reflections that separate us from the outside world; a place we can call our own. A place we feel safe. A place we call home.
Where does Community Associations Institute’s Greater Inland Empire Chapter fit in? You see, the communities we manage and attend to are an outward expression of this inward human desire for safety, protection and preservation. We serve and manage one of the most important aspects of a person’s life, their home, their security. In 1975, President Carter, while addressing the nation during similar circumstances said, “The strength we need will not come from the White House, but from every house in America.” He was right. In America and specifically in southern California we are seeing a revival of the American spirit desiring for “community.” Four out of every five homes are now being built within these communities; an answer to this “community” calling.  History has proven that legendary figures are born in just these types of circumstances. Who do I think of when I think of a legend? It’s the homeowner who volunteers to serve on their boards; leading their communities to success. It’s the business partner who ensures that not only are the physical characteristics taken care of, but that the community's health flourishes. It’s the community manager who devotes endless hours to ensure the communities they serve, thrive. A legend is the difficult story told when a person not only cares for themselves and their family but for those around them outside their personal comfort zones; their community. The Greater Inland Empire Chapter has a unique opportunity in 2017. Will we champion this community spirit revival? Or will we let it pass? No, we will reach out and become legendary!  Please join me in 2017 as we devote ourselves to this wonderful industry and create legends, one story at a time. Our communities are in need, so what will your story be…?
